Why we exist
The existing options didn't meet the bar.
Tutors who didn't turn up. Inconsistent quality. No way to know whether a child was actually making progress. So we built the marketplace we wanted: verified chums, real progress tracking, the freedom to switch any time.
We started in Lagos because that's home. We're building for everywhere people want to learn from real humans who actually know the subject.
What we won't compromise on
Three values, in this order.
Relationship over transaction.
A chum is more than a tutor. We invest in the relationship — that's the whole point of the name.
Trust is earned, not promised.
ID-verified chums. Background checks. Parent dashboards with progress notes after every lesson. The trust signals exist because they were paid for.
Honest by default.
Free meet-and-greet on every tutor. Pay only when you book a real lesson. No subscriptions, no surprise fees. ₦ in ₦ out.
A note from the founder
We built this for our own children first.
The existing options didn't meet the bar. So I built the marketplace I wanted as a parent — verified chums, real progress tracking, switch anytime. If your child's chum doesn't measure up, I want to know.
I'm a working software engineer — ten years building products, and I still write the code behind TutorChum myself. I also teach: I take on coding students on the platform, the same way every other chum does. No detached founder behind a logo — a developer who answers his own email and reviews every listing that goes live.
