CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

The safeguarding standard every parent should demand.

A live, public commitment to how we keep children safe on TutorChum. Written, enforced, reviewed annually.

Our commitment

Children's safety comes before everything else on TutorChum. Where any decision has to weigh safeguarding against business, safeguarding wins. This policy describes how that commitment shows up in our day-to-day operations.

Who this protects

Anyone under 18 using the platform — whether they have their own account (with parental oversight) or are using a parent's account.

Before a chum can teach a minor

  • Government-issued ID uploaded and verified against the issuing authority.
  • Enhanced background check — police clearance equivalent for chums based in Nigeria; equivalent verification for international chums.
  • Two professional references contacted directly. Reference notes retained on file.
  • Signed code of conduct acknowledging child-safe behaviour expectations.
  • Trust & safety interview with the TutorChum team before going live.

During lessons with minors

  • Lessons happen live on video, booked and tracked through TutorChum.
  • After every lesson, the chum logs what was covered — visible to the parent in the dashboard.
  • Parents may sit in on any lesson, especially with younger learners. Chums are notified in advance.
  • Direct contact outside the platform is forbidden by our terms.

If something goes wrong

  • One-tap report button in every lesson and message thread.
  • Trust & safety responds within 2 hours during business hours, within 24 hours otherwise.
  • Any safeguarding concern triggers immediate suspension of the chum's account while we investigate.
  • Where required by law, we cooperate with law enforcement. Where appropriate, we report to NSCDC, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), or the relevant authority in the chum's jurisdiction.

Reporting

If you have a safeguarding concern, contact us immediately at safety@tutorchum.com.ng. Include the chum's name, the date and time of the concern, and any context you can share. We'll acknowledge within 2 business hours.

For emergencies in Nigeria, call 112 immediately. For online child-safety incidents, you can also report to cyber.gov.ng.

Review

This policy is reviewed every 12 months and after any incident involving a minor. The next scheduled review is 2027-05-14.
