A realistic JAMB study plan that actually works
Build a JAMB study plan you can keep to: pick your four subjects, set weekly goals, mix past questions with real revision, and protect your rest days.
JAMB rewards steady preparation, not last-minute panic. The students who do well are rarely the ones who studied hardest the night before — they're the ones who started early and kept a plan they could actually follow. Here's how to build one.
Start with your four subjects
UTME is four subjects: Use of English is compulsory, plus three others chosen to match your course. Before you plan anything, confirm the exact three your course requires on the JAMB brochure or with your school — combinations differ between courses, and guessing wastes weeks. Once they're fixed, write them down. That short list is your whole syllabus.
Turn the term into weekly goals
A vague goal like "study physics" goes nowhere. Break each subject into topics and assign two or three topics to each week. A realistic week might be: two new topics, one revision of last week's work, and one timed past-question session. Crossing topics off a list is motivating in a way that "more studying" never is.
Mix past questions with real understanding
Past questions show you how JAMB asks things — the phrasing, the traps, the topics that come up often. But only doing past questions teaches you to recognise answers, not to solve problems. Alternate: learn a topic properly, then attempt its past questions. When you get one wrong, go back to the concept rather than just memorising the correct option.
Protect your energy
A plan with no rest is a plan you'll abandon. Build in at least one lighter day a week and proper sleep before study sessions — a tired brain remembers almost nothing. Consistency beats intensity every single time.
